Kindly treat our environs as you would your own home so that we can all enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the surroundings and leave only footprints as evidence of your stay.

WILDLIFE

Please enjoy our wildlife, numerous bird species, abundant marine life and endemic plants (both marine and land). Please exercise care when driving around our village. Please do not disturb the many nesting birds on our shores as well as on land. We have a thriving Spotted Eagle owl population. Please be cautious when driving at night as your headlights blind the wildlife. Please treat our wildlife with respect. Bird, Plant and Animal lists can be found on our website.

Birding: Over 270 species in the Cannon Rocks pentad alone. Other excellent birding spots in the area are the Golden Mile from Boknes via gravel road along the coastline to Woody Cape Dunefields, Alexandria State Forest, poor man’s game drive over Ngciyo Pans through Sibuya servitude road, Kariega and Bushman’s Rivers and estuaries, Ottersvei near Beachcombers Horse Trails and Diaz Dam on the road to Boknes and Cannon Rocks.

Shellfish are a source of food for our marine birds, please don’t let them go hungry because you strip the rocks for bait. Please report suspected poaching to SAPS 0466530015 and Mark Dixon – Ndlambe Conservationist Beaches & Reserves & Community Protection Services 0746344072.

Fish: please ensure you adhere to the license regulations. Bait and fishing licenses are available at the Cannon Rocks Holiday Resort or Kenton Tourism office. Please release all fish and sharks not required for the pot and carefully remove the hook – don’t leave them to die a slow death on the beach sand. NEVER DISCARD baited hooks or line on the beach – it is a death trap for birds and marine life. Please refrain from fishing at the Swimming Beach.

Monkeys – PLEASE DO NOT FEED them!

OUR BEACHES

Our beaches are pristine so please DO NOT LITTER. Take your rubbish and surplus bait and containers home with you to dispose in your garbage bin.

Please care for our coast and collect debris, specially plastic, that washes up on our beaches. Please drop in the ample dustbins provided.

PETS

We welcome your companion animals but remind you that roaming dogs are not permitted on the beaches nor in the village streets. Furthermore, unsupervised dogs pose a threat to our small mammals and wild fowl. Dogs should always be leashed when on the beach or walking in the streets.

For lost pets please contact Verona Veltman 0836549976 to publish on our Buzz Group

SPEED LIMIT

Kindly note there is a 40km/h speed restriction in Cannon Rocks. Please consider the residents with respect to the dust level when driving on our gravel roads. Unlicensed vehicles are prohibited on public roads and NO vehicles are permitted on our beaches. Ndlambe Traffic Dept is on call to deal with such issues. Please do not allow children to drive quad bikes and motor bikes on our public roads. Please consider your fellow holiday makers and residents by NOT RACING around our public roads.

RECYCLING

Cannon Rocks, Boknes, Bushman’s and Kenton on Sea are RECYCLING VILLAGES.

Recycling products should be placed in clear garbage bags and dropped off at the IWARS Recycle Depot – a green painted “shipping container” at the Boknes Municipal Garages near the 4 way stop or on the East side of the CR Community Hall.

FIREWORKS & CHINESE LANTERNS

Section 10.34 of the Explosives Act No 26 (1956) makes it an offence to discharge any fireworks without written permission of the local authority. Please be responsible and consider the impact on our wildlife, birds, breeding shorebirds, marine pollution and pets. CHINESE LANTERNS are OUTLAWED – our village is surrounded by dense bush which is easily ignited by any flammable devices.

KITEBOARDING

Cannon Rocks is the kiteboarding capital of South Africa. Be dazzled by our professionals riding the surf at Stillewaters beach at the wreck but please keep away from their launching & landing spots. Ropes & tackle line can be dangerous to the unwary.
